Casual observation from someone old enough to remember: in the year 2000 financial advice was that rent should be no more than 1/4 of your income.
Until the mid 80s, the advice was that if you must rent instead of owning, then that 20% of your monthly income (oh yes, only 20%) should include all your utilities too.
After all, rent costs more than a mortgage, so it should offer more too.
The housing market is a fucking travesty.

I remember trying to find a place to live and my mother was all mad at me never having enough money for anything.
She sat down with me and my budget I had sent her (at her request) and she went over everything and was like "oh well see you're spending $900 on rent and only make $1700/ month after taxes.
hi everyone! me and my lover are in a tough spot right now. the gofundme is a bit lengthy but the tl;dr is that we need to get Lux enough money to study in England. they have already been accepted into the university itself and Lux has no home, no family and no money in the united states. They have had a life full of hardship and suffering, and right now this is our only shot to get lux into a safe, loving environment with me in the UK, where I can fully support them in my own apartment. we have about two months to at least raise 11K, which is the cost of the first half of the year. we have applied for fafsa but because they're estranged they get LESS money as a loan. I do recommend reading the gofundme if you want more info on us and our situation! and of course we will be updating this as often as we can!
I am also offering commissions. I am an art student at the same uni and can do portraits, designs and illustrations. All the money would go towards this fund.
